Forte Management's Intellectual Asset Management Process

Kiwi firms are rich in intellectual or intangible assets. Managing and developing them may offer Kiwi firms their greatest opportunity to boost productivity and profitability.

Forté Management's carefully structured six step plan identifies and catalogues the assets in the portfolio. It then evaluates their importance to the business, their vulnerability to loss, damage or disruption aand the practicality and cost of replacement. Step 4 - Protection Options considers the best way to secure the asset whether that is by an approach like maintaining as a trade secret or more formal means like patenting or trademarking. Strategising and planning identifies how the asset can be managed for better overall firm performance or developed to create new revenue and profit streams. The final set of course is to action the plan - to realise the full potential.

For most firms, just cataloguing the portfolio adds greater material value to the firm or sector than the cost of the assessment. The plan helps to release the full potential in the investments in intellectual assets.
